The Choong Sil Kwan Do System of Self-Defense is a method of street defense that uses a combination of the best techniques from many of the individual fighting styles. It is the combination of the many different styles that makes it more useful and more effective than any of the individual specialties a.k.a. Judo throws, Aikido holds or Karate kicks and blows. This is not Tae Kwon Do or Karate for contest; it is not Judo for sport; it is not ceremonial Jiu Jitsu; it is not make-believe movie stunt fighting. It is an effective, practical Street-Defense a “Defense for Today". It is a defense you can learn and remember. This is not a pattern, form or kata based system. This is a system that was designed to teach an individual more directly through hands on defensive training. Choong Sil Kwan Do is not a fighting system; to fight, your objective is to overcome or conquer an opponent. Choong Sil Kwan Do is a Defensive system. To defend, your objective is to look out for the safety of yourself and  loved ones as well as to protect yourself and them from an attack.  Personal safety should always be a priority in our lives. There are many times we are distracted by every day events. A simple encounter can turn ugly in seconds. By following a few proven rules you may often avoid physical confrontations. However, even when following all the rules of awareness you may find yourself in a situation where you must respond physically. The Self -Defense classes taught at Choong Sil Kwan Do, focus on awareness, boundary setting and finally physical defense. These classes are taught in our school as well as "on site" in local businesses or at your own home. Classes are available from a basic introduction, to personal self-defense, to a full martial arts program. Defending yourself or a loved one can be one of the most intense and terrifying personal events that could happen in your life. The emotions you feel can be extreme. Most of us hope to never be involved in a physical confrontation, but unfortunately the world we live in often dictates what happens in our lives. Don’t allow yourself to be intimidated by someone larger, stronger and/or louder. Preparation is the only viable course of action.  As part of your preparation you need to answer some important questions, which are dependent on your personal convictions and not on your current self-defense skills. What are you capable of doing in the event of an attack? Could you seriously injure another person to defend yourself, or your family and loved ones?  Could you take a life to defend a life?  These are questions that must be addressed before you are faced in a situation. Waiting until an actual conflict is not the time to be struggling with these issues.  Everyone’s answer to these questions may be different and the only right answer is the one that you can live with. Your feeling of fear is certain. The controlling of your fear is critical in any defense situation. What you do with it could determine the outcome of the encounter. The discipline and knowledge that you can defend yourself will bring a sense of confidence. Our program explores common attack situations and the most effective responses. These situations will progress from simple to life threatening. The student will practice what they are taught so that an automatic response is developed. As the student continues with further instruction they will increase their level of experience. This is a unique and user-friendly program of practical Self-Defense where belts are earned as the student progresses to higher levels of experience. The combination of Awareness and Physical training is what makes Choong Sil Kwan Do so useful and different than any other system or program offered today.
